What Is My 5x5x5 Dinner Method?

For years, I thought eating healthy meant finding new recipes every week, following strict meal plans, or spending hours in the kitchen. The truth? That approach was never sustainable for my life, especially after becoming a mom who was working out of the home full-time. Everything changed when I simplified my meals. That's how my 5x5x5 Method was born.

What is the 5x5x5 Method?

The idea is simple:

Choose:

  • 5 proteins

  • 5 carbohydrates

  • 5 vegetables

Mix and match them throughout the week. That's it.

With just those 15 staple ingredients, you can create 125 different meal combinations without feeling like you're eating the same thing every day.

Instead of wondering, "What's for dinner?" every night, you already have a plan. I remember calling my husband on my way home for work and saying "these are the 5 proteins I have.. choose which sounds good!" that took off the pressure of having to have a strict plan.

Why It Worked for Me..

After losing 70 pounds, I realized I didn't need more complicated recipes but instead, I needed a system I could actually stick to. The biggest reason diets failed me in the past wasn't because I lacked motivation. It was because decision fatigue eventually caught up with me. I truly felt like I couldnt make one more decision.

When life got busy, I defaulted to takeout or whatever was easiest. The 5x5x5 Method removed that stress.

I always knew what I was making, grocery shopping became easier, meal prep became faster, and healthy eating stopped feeling overwhelming.

Healthy Doesn't Have to Be Complicated

One of the biggest misconceptions is that healthy meals have to be elaborate. They don't.

Some of my favorite meals are simply:

  • A lean protein

  • A carbohydrate

  • A vegetable

  • A simple sauce or seasoning

That's it.

Simple meals don't have to be boringl.. they just have to be enjoyable enough that you can make them over and over again.

Why I Still Use It Today

Even after maintaining my weight loss, I still use this method almost every week.

As a busy mom, I don't want to spend my evenings searching Pinterest for dinner ideas. I want meals that nourish my family, keep me feeling full, and fit into real life.

The 5x5x5 Method gives me structure without making me feel restricted.

It also saves money, reduces food waste, and makes grocery shopping incredibly simple because I know exactly what I'm buying each week.

The Goal Isn't Perfection

The goal has never been to eat perfectly. The goal is to make healthy eating so simple that it becomes your default. When meals become easier to plan, they're easier to stick with. And when you can stick with something consistently, that's when real progress happens.

That's why the 5x5x5 Method has been such a game changer for me.

It helped me stop overcomplicating healthy eating and start building habits I could actually maintain.

Sometimes the simplest systems are the ones that last the longest.
